Springtime in Portland kicks off with stunning cherry blossoms, and the best place to catch them in full bloom is at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Head over to the Steel Bridge and the Japanese American Historical Plaza, where 100 cherry trees line the waterfront.
This downtown Portland waterfront park is, without a doubt, the best spot to take in the cherry blossoms. These trees explode with color for a few weeks each year, signaling that spring has officially arrived!

2. Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm Festival
The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival is the largest flower farm on this list, making it one of our favorite flower festivals!
This annual celebration of spring transforms acres of flower fields in Woodburn, just 45 minutes south of Portland, into a vibrant sea of tulips in full bloom.

The tulips at Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm are typically in peak bloom from late March to early May, with peak color typically in mid-April. Beyond the stunning tulips, the festival offers unique experiences like hot air balloon rides over the fields and a visit to their on-site winery, making it an unforgettable spring outing.

3. Adelman Peony Gardens
The best place to enjoy peonies is the Adelman Peony Gardens. Take a leisurely stroll through more than 30 acres of production fields and 2 acres of breathtaking display gardens, with vibrant blooms at every turn.
The Adelman Peony Garden is a perfect outing for the whole family. The best part is that you can buy cut flowers or potted Peonies from the farm to bring the beauty home.
Before moving to Portland, Oregon, I had never seen a peony, but after visiting a peony garden, I can confidently say they’re now my favorite flower! Their fragrance is incredible.

4. Hood River Lavender Farms – Lavender Days
About an hour and a half from downtown Portland, in the picturesque Hood River Valley, you’ll find Hood River Lavender Farms. Open to the public in the summer, the farm invites visitors to wander through its fragrant lavender fields, enjoy a picnic, and browse craft vendors.
Be sure to visit the farm’s friendly goats and llamas. Stop at the nearby Stave & Stone Wine Estates for a delightful wine tasting. If time allows, explore more stops along the Fruit Loop Trail for a complete experience.

Best Time to Visit:
The bloom starts in mid to late June, and full bloom is around the second week of July.
From late July through September, you can enjoy You-Pick lavender, allowing you to take home a bundle of fresh lavender flowers.
Every July, the lavender farm hosts the Lavender Daze Festival. This flower fields festival draws thousands to celebrate the season’s peak bloom with live music, food, art, and various activities.

5. Swan Island Dahlia Festival
The Swan Island Dahlia Festival is the grand finale of summer flower festivals, and it truly lives up to the hype. Stroll through nearly 40 acres of stunning dahlia displays showcasing over 370 varieties.
I’m always amazed by the incredible range of Dahlia flowers, from tiny button blooms to dahlias as big as my face. While visiting Swan Island Dahlias, indulge in delicious food from various food trucks, relax with live music, and explore the gift shop.

International Rose Test Garden
Portland’s International Rose Test Garden is located in Washington Park. Here, you can view over 10,000 types of roses and enjoy beautiful views of the city and Mt. Hood. This is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city, and parking is minimal. Ditch your car and take the free Washington Park shuttle that starts at the Washington Park Max station. Typically, the roses bloom from May to early September.
